VCA¶
There are; 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, and 32 input versions of the VCA modules. These modules adjust the gain of one, or more signals based on a control signal. VCA, or Voltage Controlled Amplifier, in the Analog world would use a voltage which is controlled by the position of the fader to change the level of the amplifier. There is really no voltage involved in Symetrix's DSP VCAs, but we keep the terminology since it is familiar to many users. If it helps, "V" can be thought of as the acronym character for Virtual in Virtual (Voltage) Controlled Amplifier.
The multi-channel VCA modules all have a single control input. The same gain is applied to all channels. If you require multiple gain control signals, use multiple one channel VCA modules. The response of the VCA is linear. The gain is the Max Gain value when the control input is 100%, 0 (muted) when the control input is 0% and linear in between. If a logarithmic, or other response is required, a taper module can be inserted on the input.
Controls
Max Gain. Sets the gain of the module when the control signal input is 100%. For other control inputs, the gain scales linearly. By choosing a value greater than 0dB, it is possible for a VCA to boost a signal. For multi-channel modules, this parameter applies to all channels. Adjust using the slider to click in the text entry box to specify a numerical value.
Mute. Mutes all module outputs regardless of the control signal input. For multi-channel modules, the mute settings applies to all channels.
Control Level. This field displays on a scale of 0 - 100% the level of the control signal input.
Actual Gain. This field displays on a scale of dB the actual gain that is being applied, or taken away from the audio signal.
