Control Linking

Parameter Linking

Parameter linking allows multiple controls using the same Control Number to remain linked regardless of how their values are changed. For example, consider two faders both assigned to Controller #1. As long as they are changed with an ARC or 3rd party control device, their values will stay in sync. However, if one of the faders is moved via Composer or via a Preset Recall, the other will not automatically be updated and they will be out of sync. Turning on Controller Linking for this pair of faders ensures they always stay locked together. To set-up parameter linking between two controls, assign each one to the same control number and check the "Enable Control Number Linking" checkbox for each one.

LED/Meter Linking

LED/Meter linking allows converting the state of LEDs or the value of meters to an internal control signal for further processing. For example, you may want a clip LED to fire a preset or send out an RS-232 string. To accomplish this, assign a control number to the LED or meter in question and check the "Enable Control Number Linking" checkbox. Then, add an RS-232/485 Input module and give it the same Control Number. Now, the Control Signal output will reflect the meter or LED. This control signal output could then be used to trigger other actions, e.g. connect it to a Logic Output module.

Changing the Linking Setting

For Controls that have already been assigned, you can change the Control Number Linking setting from the Remote Control Manager. The "Link" column shows the current state of the setting. This setting can quickly be changed using the Enable/Disable Linking button. The name of the button changes depending on the current setting, allowing it to be toggled. Multiple Controllers can be selected using shift-click or control-click and all can be enabled/disabled at once.

Technical Issues

The linking is updated every 30 mS. This means it might take up to 30 milliseconds for a change to one parameter to affect others, but this is generally fast enough to be instantaneous for all practical purposes. Composer has its own update rate, so you may not see updates for up to a second in some cases, but you should hear them almost immediately.
