(RS-232/485) Control Number Inputs

These modules allow you to generate control signals from GUI actions, or remote controls. Button modules deal with Boolean (on/off) controls, while faders deal with continuous controls. These modules also allow interfacing to remote control signals (analog and RS-232/485) to allow processing and using remote controls as control signals.

Button modules

There are modules that have 1, 2, 4, or 8 graphical buttons, each generating a control signal output. Each button has individual controls. Latched and Momentary versions are provided. Latched version will be the most often used in conjunction with remote control options. They can be made momentary by using momentary contact closures on the External (Analog) Control Inputs, for example. Momentary versions are most useful when placed on a Control Screen as when you are controlling the system from the Composer software and a momentary trigger function is desired from a single mouse click.

Controls:

  • Off Level. Sets the control signal level that will be output when the button is off (0-100%). Adjust using the slider or click in the text entry box to specify a numerical value.

  • On Level. Sets the control signal level that will be output when the button is on (0-100%). Adjust using the slider or click in the text entry box to specify a numerical value.

** Note: to make the button act in reverse, set the off level to a value higher than the on level.**

  • On. Controls the button state. You can assign this control to a remote control to provide an interface from a remote control to a control signal.

A space is provided to name each button. Click in the box adjacent to the On button and enter a name. The name entered will also appear on the modules output label(s).

Note: You can also use a button module to interface to an on/off type remote control (analog input or RS-232/485). This allows processing and using an analog control or RS-232/485 control as a control signal. Assign the On button to a remote control. Then the module output will reflect the state of the remote control and can be routed, processed, and connected as a control signal. Button modules also provide a convenient way to generate a constant-valued control signal.

Radio Button modules

There are modules that have 2, 4, 8 and 16 graphical buttons, each generating a control signal output. Each button has individual controls. Only one button may be active at a time. Additionally, a slider is provided which sends out the currently selected button value on a single connection. The slider also provides another, sometimes simpler, means of assigning the module to a remote control to choose the current output. This module is useful for selecting between several preset values. When used in conjunction with other modules, it can be used to create more complex toggle logic.

Controls:

  • On Level. Sets the control signal level that will be output when the button is on (0-100%). Adjust using the slider or click in the text entry box to specify a numerical value.

  • Button #xx. Turns the numbered output on and turns all others off. Pressing button #2, for example, turns output #2 on and turns all others off.

A space is provided to name each button. Click in the box adjacent to the On button and enter a name. The name entered will also appear on the module's output label(s).

Note: You can also use a button module to interface to an on/off type remote control (analog input or RS-232/485). Fader modules

There are modules that have 1, 2, 4, or 8 graphical faders, each generating a continuous control signal output. Each fader has individual controls.

Controls:

  • Log/Linear buttons. Determines the response of the fader. In linear mode, moving the fader generates a linearly shaped control signal. When the fader is in the middle, it will output 50%. When the log move, moving the fader generates a logarithmically shaped control signal. The appropriate setting of this parameter depends on what the control signal is controlling.

Note: if a different response shape is desired, use the linear setting and then process the output with one of the Taper control modules.

  • *Level. Controls the output level of the module. Adjust using the slider or click in the text entry box to specify a numerical value. you can assign this control to an remote control to provide an interface from a remote control to a control signal. *

A space is provided to name each fader. Click in the box adjacent to the Level fader and enter a name. The name entered will also appear on the module's output label(s).

Note: you can also use a fader module to gain access to a continuous remote control (analog input, or RS-232/485) as a control signal. Assign the Level fader to an external control. Then the module output will reflect the state of the remote control and can be routed processed, and connected as a control signal.

Fader modules also provide a convenient way to generate a constant-valued control signal.

(RS-232/485) Control Number Inputs

This module provides a variable-value control signal output from an RS-485 control number. This allows interfacing to remote control data as a control signal for such purposes as scaling RS-232/485 control data.

Controls:

  • Controller Level. Displays the current level of the control signal output (%).

  • Control Number. Enter the RS-232/485 (1-1000) control number you wish to output to a control signal.
