Design of Control Screens

Control Screens are designed entirely within Composer using the existing tools and features. Design Control Screens taking target computer environment into consideration.

  • SymVue panels are generally what-you-see-is-what-you’ll-get.
  • You can design for a specific screen size or you can have the SymVue Export Wizard size and position the Control Screens for you based upon some preset screen sizes. However, it is always useful to have the target screen size/resolution in mind when designing Control Screens.
  • SymVue can work just as easily with a touch screen or a mouse. Certain touch screens may work better than others for dragging operations such as operating a fader. With touch screens, larger controls may be necessary.
  • A keyboard isn’t necessarily required. An on-screen keyboard may be used for numeric or password entry.

Remote Control Via Control Numbers

SymVue talks to Symetrix hardware using the same Control Number abstraction mechanism used to interface with ARC Wall Panel remotes as well as 3rd party control systems (e.g. AMX or Crestron). Therefore, any parameter exposed on a SymVue panel, must have a Control Number assigned to it. This can be automatically handled during export by checking the appropriate option in the SymVue Export Wizard.

User Issues - Security Requirements, Expected User Knowledge

The user should know if they require restricted access or not, and which panels require them. Users should know how to launch an application on a Windows computer and use it either with a touch screen or mouse.
