Audio vs. Control Signals¶

Control signals are distinguished from audio signals by a special symbol on the module I/O connectors (see figure below). Audio outputs should never be connected to control inputs. In most cases, control outputs should not be connected to audio inputs. Some modules such as filters and delays will work with control signals, but processing control signals with audio processing modules is generally not recommended. In most cases, a similar functionality can be obtained using control processing modules.

While Audio Signals are typically measured and displayed in dBFS, control signals are indicated with percentages and range from 0% to 100%. The smallest possible control signal (zero) is referred to as 0% while a full-scale signal (65,535) is 100%.
